My Results
After hearing so much about this product, my curiosity got the best of me.
I was looking for a leave-in anyway, so why not try this product?
After co-washing, i used this product all thru my hair, along with my
homemade moisturizer and almond oil to seal. I then air-dried with
all the products in. I don't know, but i don't feel anything special about
this leave-in, as a matter of fact my hair felt hard. It could be a combination
of all the products together. I will give it another try with just this product
alone.  Maybe the results will be different

Stretching

I am 9 weeks post. I am not sure how long i want to stretch. Usually around this time, i have a lot of problems stretching. My new growth is usually dry and brittle by this time, but since adding JBCO (Jamaican black castor oil) it has been very soft, so i am not having a hard time with the new growth, and my hair has over a inch of new growth, which is great, cause i usually have about 1/2 inch by this time. Could it be the JBCO? anyway i am also on a JBCO Challenge on MyHairSistas.  Let's see what happens !!!

What's Causing This Fast Hair Growth?

I am now 8 weeks post relaxer. My hair normally grows very slow IMO, but i am noticing that my hair has grown an inch in the past eight weeks. What can be causing this faster growth? Well, i believe it's the combination of some of the new additions to my regimen. I have been taking hair, skin, and nail vitamins, along with MSM and a regular multi-vitamin. I have replaced my mult-vitamin with prenatal vitamins. I also have add JBCO (Jamaican Black Castor Oil). I apply 2x week on wash days. I am not sure if i'm having a growth spurt or this combo is what is doing it, but i hope it continues

Product Review

Dissapointment

After hearing so much about this product. I finally bought it. I had seen this product so many times and always wanted to purchase it. My hair idol (Kinikakes) loves this product. For some reason i would look at the product and would always say i am gonna buy this product next time, lol. Could be my subconscious mind know more than i do (spooky) anyway, finally after purchasing two Dominican products, i decided i am going to add this one to my product haul. Well, i'm 7 weeks post and not really having a difficult time, yet. My hair is not feeling particularly dry or anything, but this product is supposed to be supper moisturizing !!! Truth is my hair just laughed at it. Not at all moisturized, dang. I so wanted this to be the super product, instead it was just okay for my hair.

I have been looking all around for a new henna. I have been using Jamilia henna, but it's seems that it's not giving me the thickness i got from using it the first time, maybe i'm adding too much to the mixture, so i went to a site called FreshDeals.com where you can type in what you want and get it at a cheaper or less expensive price.FreshDeals is a site where you can find all your beauty needs. Natural Way To Ligthen Hair

For as long as i can remember, i always wanted lighter hair. My hair is a dark brown with reddish highlights that can be seen in the sun. I never really liked the color of my hair and still don't, so over the years i have had my hair colored almost every color of the rainbow. My last color was supposed to be a nice light ash brown, that's not what i got. The color it turned out to be was a brassy cross between bright red and orange, Ok No!!! HAM (Hot ass mess). On top of that i paid 250.00 for that mess, from someone who was supposed to be a top colorist, right!! Not only was the color a HAM my hair broke off to about an inch, going from MBL (Mid-back length). I did not know that there were just too many processes for my relaxed, fine textured hair. Other permanent dyes did not take my hair out, but with this color, it was bleached to almost white and then a toner(adds the shade of color)was added and processed for an hour. Not good for fine, relaxed hair. I vowed to never color my hair again, but i still see beautiful color on other people and wished i could have it. So i started looking for ways to color my hair that would not damage, dry out or break my hair. I was searching the web on night and came upon this site that said there was a way to lighten hair naturally without causing damage to your relaxed or natural hair. What???
Here is the recipe :
Have you ever used honey for your hair? Honey has been a part of routine hair care treatments for centuries and honey recipes for hair care treatments are versatile.

Anyone with any hair type can use recipes of honey in their routine hair care. It is a great way of lightening your hair color.

Here is a simple recipe of honey yielding marvelous results to lighten the color of your hair.
Steps to prepare

Step 1: Firstly, take all the ingredients required for the preparation and put them in one place. The ingredients include: ½ cup uncooked raw honey, 1½ cups distilled water and 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, cardamom or ground cinnamon oil each.

Step 2: Take 1½ cups distilled water in one neat bowl and add honey to it. Stir it well.

Step 3: Now, add extra virgin oil, cardamom or ground cinnamon oil to the solution of water and honey. Stir it thoroughly until it gets dissolved.

Step 4: Pour this solution in a spray bottle or root applicator bottle to apply to your hair. If you don’t have either, use a brush to apply it to your hair.

I intend to try this recipe mixed with conditioner:

the mixture

olive oil
ground cinnamon
tresemme
distilled water
Honey

Charting My Hair Growth Progress

This is the start of my charting growth. I am having breakage in the middle of my head, i have no idea why? but it's great to have my t-shirt to see exactly were i am now and where i will eventually like to be. I can see the damage and can work to make changes for the better over time. I will be updating every 3 months with my t-shirt.

Well, now that i'm taking this grow to waist length thing seriously, i have implemented a few new rules for myself to follow.

1. I will use my growth progress t-shirt to chart my growth (i'm on line 4)
2. I will wear protectives styles
3. Keep hands out of hair (i have hand in hair disease, lol)
4. Mostly finger comb
5. I will cut back on washing my hair (I now only wash Monday's & Thursday's.Every 3 days is too much manipulation).

The journey continues :o)

Relaxer Update !!

I finally relaxed on tuesday october 13th after a 12 week stretch. I could have stretched for longer, but for some reason, i have had breakage in the middle of my head. I believe the breakage is caused by my texlaxing. I get so many tangles, so much more than when i relax bone straight. I think the texlaxing and fine hair does not go together very well, at least not for me. This touch-up i decided to go back to relaxing bone straight, my hair will look thinner, but it already has less tangles and almost no breakage, yaaaaa!!! Since i was not completely satisfied with the ORS lye relaxer (regular) last time, i made the switch back to silk elements. I must say it came out very well, probably because i prepped my hair and scalp, and made sure the conditions were right for relaxing, so here's what i did :

1. washed and deep conditioned with a protein con (1 week before touch-up)
2. did not manipulate my scalp in any way (why does your scalp want to start itching like crazy at relaxer time?)
3.air dried
4.only finger combed
5.moisturized and sealed

The day of the relaxer

1.based scalp
2.coated previous relaxed hair with, affirm protecto, chi silk infusion and chi keratin mist
3.applied relaxer in 4 sections
4.rinsed
5.neutalized
6.deep conditioned with porosity control, hollywood beauty olive oil cholesterol and tresemme mixed together
7.air dried
8.moisturized (with homemade mixture)
9.sealed with almond oil
10.the did one big braid and clip it up,put on my silk scarf (that's it)

Result
very soft tangle free, evenly relaxed

One of my better relaxer experiences !!!

Mixtress Monday

After feeling my hair and deciding that it looked too thin and felt very weak, i feel that i needed a protein treatment. I did not want to do a hard protein because i am 11 weeks post and hard protein would also make my new growth very hard too. I had seen other hairsistas do an egg treatment and got good results, so i figured i would try mixing an egg into a conditioner concoction (i had never used eggs as a protein conditioner before)I know with a hard protein or henna, i always got strength and thickness, but how would adding eggs to my conditioner make my hair feel? Well, i'm glad i finally tried an egg conditioning mixture. I co-washed and deep condition with the egg mixture for 1 hour, applying it in sections like when applying a relaxer. I put on a plastic cap, wrapped my head in a towel, let it sit for 1 hour, rinsed. I then detangled (it was so easy to detangle and my hair felt so soft), air-dried and moisturized and sealed. Then twisted and pinned my hair up, and put on my silk scarf for the night. I love how my hair feels, strong and moisturized and the new growth is so also, with this mixture, maybe i can stretch for another month, we'll see.

Combs

I love to collect combs. Combs are sometimes thought of as evil, they can rip and tear at fragile hair. The trick is finding the right comb/s for different things we do to our hair. On wash day, the best comb for hair is a detangling comb and for everyday use on fine or any highly textured hair, a wide tooth comb is best for minimizing breakage. To rollerset hair, i like to use a fine tooth comb, after detangling with a wide tooth comb. There is something that i learned from a haircare guru that was very important, she said "no matter what comb you use, make sure the teeth are smooth". If you look at most commercial combs under a microscope, you will see the teeth are jagged. This cannot be seen by the naked eye, but it can damage your hair, making micro nicks and tears, which will eventually damage and weather hair. So, what do you do to make sure your combs have smooth teeth? Well, you can order your combs from specialty stores that sell smooth toothed combs, or you can sand down the teeth of your combs with sandpaper until smooth. I have done this, and i have noticed a huge difference with breakage. One such store with smooth tooth combs is a company called tenderheaded.com
I am no way affiliated with this company. I just love their products

Does trimming promote healthy hair?

As i watched this video, i came to the conclusion that many people believe trimming is necessary for healthy hair. I do agree that hair tends to look better and look healthier with a good trim, but does it actually make hair healthier to trim hair? What do you think? I will be on a no trim challenge on MyHairSistas starting september 3rd after using the moon calendar to trim my hair for thickness, and i will not trim again for at least 6 months. I want the healtiest hair possible, but after the 3rd not trims for a while, i hope i'm not doing harm, i usually trim after a relaxer, every 3 months

Co-washing

Did You Know? Conditioners and Co-washing

Conditioner washing, or washing the hair only with a conditioning product, is an excellent way to get moisture to your strands during the week. However, buildup from the conditioners used is often a concern for many conditioner washers.

One pretty interesting thing about conditioners is that they ALSO contain surfactants, the substances in shampoos that bind to and help remove dirt from the hair. These surfactants in conditioners are called "secondary surfactants" and they extremely gentle.

Surfactants are the reason why conditioner washing is still able to get the hair clean! Surfactants are needed in conditioners to help them spread, “lather,” and rinse away
cleanly. Common secondary surfactants are cocamidopropyl betaine, sulfosuccinate,
hydroxysultaine, and lauryl polyglucose.

Also, to increase the chance that your conditioner will work well as a conditioner washing conditioner, in addition to the inclusion of secondary surfactants, look for conditioners that contain very few silicones and heavy oils. You also want to be sure to clarify the hair regularly.

Happy conditioner washing!

MSM, methylsulfonylmethane (sulphur) and Hair Loss

Sulphur is a mineral present in all cells of the human body. Sulphur is most concentrated in hair, skin and nails. Sulphur has been called a “beauty mineral” and a “healing mineral” because of its ability to promote circulation and decrease inflammation. These qualities support the theory that when your body has the adequate amounts of sulphur, you can jump-start hair growth in people with sulphur deficiences that may be causing thinning hair or hair loss.

Sulphur has become a popular nutritional supplement and topical treatment, thanks to methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM. In the book, The Miracle of MSM, by Drs. Stanley Jacob and Ronald Lawrence, they state that MSM is considered to be safe with no chance of overdose. They state that even after years of taking more than 2,000 mg of MSM each day, patients showed no sign of toxicity. That’s because as a water-soluble mineral, any excess MSM not used by the body is quickly flushed out.

The doctors treated more than 1,000 patients with MSM for everything from osteoarthritis to allergies. When it came to research on hair growth, they reported that 100% of their patients taking MSM experienced increased growth. Although these results are exciting there is no widely-published evidence that taking excessive amounts of MSM will reduce health problems unless a sulphur deficiency is currently present. Some first signs of a sulphur deficiency are dry skin, loss of hair, brittle hair and nails. Other symptoms may include sore joints and muscles, diabetes, headaches, allergies and fatigue.

I'm having a hard time

I started the no comb challenge 3 days ago. I have already failed !!! I just cannot keep my hands out of my hair. I am so upset with myself, why can't i put the comb down? Am i obsessed? I have already combed my hair 3 times today (i usually comb about 10 times, lol) If i am to make progress i must stick to my self imposed challenges. Granted 3x a day is less than 10, but the challenge calls for only combing on wash days. I must be an example for my hairsitas. I won't give up, i will just try harder :o)

I will look to this picture for inspiration !!!

Biotin And Hair Growth

Biotin plays a significant part in the prevention of hair loss. Most nutritionists agree that biotin is one of the important vitamins for supporting hair growth. It is also commonly advised to take biotin to supplement medical treatments such Minoxidil or Propecia.

A deficiency of biotin may cause hair to become frail and unhealthy, and hair breakage, which may result in hair loss. Biotin also keeps your skin and nails healthy as well as being an important element of new hair growth.
Supplements are sometimes needed to return biotin levels to normal, but it is recommended to include biotin regularly in your diet. Two foods containing good quantities of biotin are liver and egg yolks. You would have to eat thousands of calories worth daily to get enough for your hair needs, which is why I would also suggest biotin supplements.

Foods full of biotin include brewer's yeast, green peas, oats, soybeans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, green peas, bulgur and brown rice. In terms of the egg yolks, your body's ability to digest and assimilate biotin decreases with high intake levels of protein. Biotin binds easily to proteins, making it unavailable to your body, which in turn causes biotin deficiency and hair loss. Try to steer clear of raw eggs in your diet, and cut down on protein powders and bars. Use one of the many shampoos that contain biotin and silica.

Additionally, those with type A blood don't have the ability to fully absorb B vitamins. Biotin is classified as a Vitamin B, so if you have Type A blood, adding higher doses of 5-8 grams twice daily will be needed to help prevent hair loss. At this time, there are no known side effects at this dosage level.

People suffering from heartburn, acid reflux, or GERD and who are taking antacids may absorb biotin less and hair loss may occur as a result. Therefore watch your use of over-the-counter antacids if you are worried about hair loss.

1 Year Comparison

I'm so glad i learned to do comparison pics. It's really good to do these comparison shots to keep you motivated. If i didn't take this shot, i would swear my hair is not growing, lol. This is one year of a consistent regime. I even trimmed twice to get rid of raggy ends, and gained some thickness too with using henna glosses and the addition of JBCO.

Working the new reggie

Okay it been 10 days since my relaxer and 3 co-washes later. I've been sticking to the new reggie and it seems to be working, the addition of castor oil to my scalp and hair has defintely showing some thickness and addition to that my hair feels softer, more moisturized. I will continue this reggie until my next relaxer, that way i can give it time to see if it's a regimen i will keep, gotta keep tweaking until i find the right regimen.

My Waistlength Challenge and Regimen

Hey Girls,
I am on a quest for waistlength by July 20th, 2010. I have 5 inches to go. Since i have been stuck at bsl for the last year, i will have to do an overhaul of my present regimen. I am obviously doing something or somethings wrong. My ends continue to fray and break off and i can't stand to see those thin ends, so i cut, which always takes me back to bsl. I plan to tweek my present regimen because, if you do the same thing everyday, don't expect different results, so it's time for a change.

I will start working on a new regimen, not that this one is broken, but i should have been waistlength 2 years ago.

Do you ladies think there is such a thing as terminal length? I hope i have not reached my terminal length, lol

Here is my new waistlength by July 20th, 2010 Regimen

1. Deep condition on dry hair every 3 days (no heat in the summer)with plastic cap for at least 1 hr.
2. Apply leave in : My moisture mix or other leave-in's
in 4 sections after detangling
3. Apply oil to seal (any oil i'm feeling at the time)
4. Comb all sections back to air-dry
5. Make 1 braid (this is new)
6. Pin up braid
7. After my hair is dried, apply castor oil to the scalp (this is new)
8. Rebraid (1 Braid in back)
9. Apply MyHairSistas Edge Grow Formula (to edges 2x a day)
10.Put on satin scarf
11.Wig or Protective style

Daily Care :
Moisturize at least 1x a day
Weekly Care :
Protein conditioner
Moisture conditioner
Monthly Care :
Henna Gloss
Garlic Conditioner
Trims : By the moon calendar - next trim September 13 2009

Extra:
Protein Drink
Castor oil (to scalp after every co-wash, every 3 days)
wide tooth comb (to detangle and use for combing)

Vitamins
Multi-vitamin
Hair, Nails & Skin Vitamin with Biotin
MSM 1500mg.

Whew that's it. I'm getting serious about reaching my goal!!!
If you girls have and suggestions, please let me know :o)

Relaxer Results

I relaxed on July 20 after a 12 week stretch. This time i used ORS lye relaxer, regular strength. As usual i did a relaxer prep with castor oil and conditioner on the length. I had been deep conditioning faithfully thoughout the whole 12 week stretch, alternating with protein, moisture and henna gloss. I have noticed that even though my relaxer technique has gotten better, i still seem to texlax. I no longer wish to textlax because it doesn't seem to agree with my fine hair, my hair gets so tangled and i have breakage in the middle of my head, so i tried to relax bone straight, because when i used to relax bone straight, my hair didn't tangle and i had minimum breakage. The reason i believe i am still getting a texlaxed texture is because i think my hair is actually getting stronger and healthier, therefore relaxing with a mild formula does not work anymore (i'm happy about the better health of my hair)also, someone suggested, i may be getting a texlaxed texture if i don't clarify before relaxers or i may have too much product on my hair, which stops the action of the relaxer. I just don't know. I really prefer to do my own relaxers, but i may have to break down and let the professional do it the next time, anyway here is the result

Hello followers, Just a quick blog to let you know, i have changed my name (formerly Fine Hair Sista) to A Journey to Waistlength, because this is my goal. I will still blog from the perspective of a sista with fine hair, trying to grow, thick, strong and healthy waistlength hair. I will also document an overhaul of my present regimen. I have gotten to bsl with my old regimen, but i seem to be stuck there. I will try new techniques and products to hopefully reach my goal of full waistlength.

The Countdown Continues

I only have 4 more days to make a decision on whether or not i will relax or stretch, but i am leaning towards relaxing in the 4 days. My hair is cooperating with me this stretch. Usually about this time i can't even get the comb through it. I have been doing some extra moisturizing and concentrating my oils and moisturizers on the root area, so maybe that has made it easier for this stretch. I have been doing all protective styles and i came up with this big dooky braid style. I like it cause it makes my thin fine hair look uber thick and also makes my head look big, lol.
It's 4 days and counting :o)

To Stretch Or Not To Stretch, That Is The Question

Well it's almost that time again, 8 days before my next touch up and i'm going crazy trying to decide whether or not to relax in 8 days or wait a little longer. I usually relax around 12 weeks anyway, but this time i want to stretch longer. The longest stretch i did was 16 weeks and it was so hard, but i really didn't have much choice as to why i stretched because i was sick and could not be bothered with doing my hair. It was in braids and i did not have the strength to take them out. Right now i have about 1 inch of new growth and i am doing pretty well with managing the new growth, but i really can't do any nice hairstyles, lol, so i have been wearing my wig everyday and it's hot. I was thinking if i put my hair in braids, i could stretch for 2 months or i could relax, then braid. I just don't know. Well anyway, i have 8 days to decide.

The Countdown Begins

I am at that point again 10-1/2 weeks post relaxer, this is when it gets so difficult to stretch and to know what to do with my hair (does anyone have this problem?) I always just want to relax and get it over with, but i vowed that i would not relax earlier than 12 weeks. It's not that i have breakage or anything like that, but it is always so dry, brittle and hard to comb at this point, and i can't really do anything but put it in a ponytail or bun or a protective style. I wish there was a way to style my hair another way at this point, but i don't have a clue because i don't use heat. Oh well only 10 more days to go. Now which relaxer should i use? I have 10 days to make up my mind, any suggestions?

How Often Should Fine Hair be Relaxed?

There is not a one size fits all answer to this one. There are many factors to consider when relaxing fine hair. How you schedule your relaxer touch-ups depend on these things :

1. Hair growth
do you have at least 1 inch of growth? For some, that could be 6 weeks, for others 10 weeks or more. Having at least 1 inch of growth would provide room to apply relaxer to new growth only, therefore reducing the chances of overprocessing. Relaxing on less than an inch of hair growth can lead to overprocessing and thinning.

2.Hair Texture
Depending on your hair texture, you may be able to stretch for longer periods of time.
With fine hair textures, most relax at 8 weeks. I choose to stretch for a least 12 weeks to ensure enough growth to limit overlapping.
Fine hair breaks down more easily by chemicals, so you must make sure to move quickly when applying to avoid overprocessing and breakage.

3.Stretching
If you have fine hair and decide to stretch, it must be done with patience. Stretching relaxers on fine hair is a challenge. You will have to treat your hair with extra special care, when washing, conditioning and styling.

My personal feelings on when to relax fine hair is to stretch as long as possible, which is for me 12 weeks. After 12 weeks it gets very difficult to work with my hair without tangling and breakage, some may be able to stretch for longer periods of time, but relaxing less than 6 weeks would most likely cause overlapping and overprocessing.

I'm In Love With Henna

Today i did a henna gloss. It was the best henna gloss i ever did. My hair doubled in thickness and felt so strong. I had just taken out a weave i had in for 2 1/2 weeks. I don't know why but when i took out the weave my hair was so dry and brittle, so i co-wash 3 times and it was a tangled mess, i was on my hair from 8:00 in the morning until 10:00 that night, it seemed like my hair was one big dred loc, so i carefully pulled apart each tangle, then co-washed again, but my hair still felt dry and brittle and was shedding like crazy. I didn't know what my next step was, so after pinning my hair up and sleeping on it, i decided the next day i was gonna do something, i could not let all my hard work go down the drain, i was not gonna have a setback. So when i got back home this evening, i decided i was gonna do something that has never failed me, my beloved henna. I had henna that was left over from the last gloss, i just added a little more oil and applied it like a relaxer, starting at the roots, then the length, put on a plastic cap, my satin scarf and went to visit my dad. I returned in 2 hrs. and rinsed in the shower. I could immediately feel the thickness and strength, after rinsing throughly. I applied my moisturizer and sealed with almond oil, let air dry and my hair now feel fabulous- check it out girls :o)

Here is the recipe :
3 tablespoons of Jamila henna
coffee-enough to make henna dark
1/2 cup of vo5 strawberries and creme
almond oil

It's A Jungle In Here

Wow i'm 10-1/2 weeks post and believe me, it's a jungle in here. I truly have an afro thing going on under the relaxed parts, lol. The shrinkage just amazes me, my bsl hair is now apl due to the shrinkage. The good thing about this stretch is that i am not shedding like it usually does at this time. Usually at 9 weeks i start to have a lot of shedding and i thought because i am underprocessed that this stretch would be hard. I think this time it's easier because of the homemade garlic conditioner i used 3 times stopped the shedding in it's tracks (the garlic conditioner is now one of my staples). I want to continue to stretch, but i think i won't press my luck. I will relax in 9 days. I can't wait!!! My last stretch was for 14 weeks and the shedding was out of control, anyway, i will try to relax bone straight this time, to see if it is better than texlaxing for my fine hair, cause my texlaxed hair tangles like crazy. If i like the way my hair behaves being bone straight, i will stick to it. If my hair act the fool, i'll go back to texlaxed. It's about learning what your hair likes. I'll keep yall updated :o)

Texlaxing And Stretching

What is texlaxing?
Is when you leave a relaxer on your hair for only a short period of time to loosen the curl pattern according to hairs texture. Fine hair needs less processing time than coarser hair texture.

What is stretching?
Is when you stretch the amount of time between relaxers. Most hairdresser would like touch ups to be done at 6-8 weeks post. I believe in stretching for a least 12 weeks minimum. I try to stretch as long as my hair allows me to.

I am 10 weeks post. I usually stretch for 12 weeks, but it seems lately that stretching gets really hard after 9 weeks post. I am also texlaxed which is most likely the reason stretching to 12 weeks is so hard. I thought it would be a good idea to texlax and stretch, but now i'm rethinking that idea. My fine hair gets so tangled and i thinking texlaxed hair and stretching is not a good combination.
I'm thinking about going back to bone straight, but continuing to stretch my relaxers. Hmmm, i will keep yall updated

My New Detangling Comb

This comb is great for detangling wet or dry hair. It does not snap my fine hair like some other combs mean for detangling. I have not tried to use it for combing through conditioner, but it does and excellent job on wet hair, and the price is right. I bought the comb from Duane Reade.
Price: $3.99

Product Description
Goody Ouchless Detangling Comb
Ouchless combs are the ultimate in Snagless Styling. The Ochless Detangling Comb has flexible teeth that eliminate hair breakage and a retractable spine that conforms to the head.

Co-washed Today

Today i co-washed with Motions CPR conditioner, which i left on for an hour and a half. I usually alternate between henna, garlic conditioner, moisture and protein. The Motions CPR is a mild to moderate protein so i've been told. I felt that my hair was not feeling so thick after moisturizing the heck out of it for three days. Too much moisturizing makes my fine hair look thin and over softens it after a while, so i figured i would use the protein to give it strength and thickness (i always get thickness from protein conditioners)well i applied this conditioner like i usually do, like doing a relaxer touch up. I put on a plastic cap, wrapped a towel around my head for 1 1/2 hours and did some work on the computer. I rinsed in the shower. I detangled in 4 sections and did not do my usual moisturizing and sealing in 3 sections. I wanted to see how my hair felt without all the moisturizer, so i let it air dry in 4 sections. As my hair started to dry, it felt so hard, i knew that it was the protein, so i did my moisturizing and sealing in 4 sections. I decided that i wanted to keep the thick feeling, so i did not use too much moisturizer or oil. Well, it was a good idea, cause when i did use less moisturizer and oil, my hair felt great with just enough moisture and strength. I am learning to listen to my hair, lol, as it constanly changes. Caring for fine hair is a constant battle so i must keep on top of it. Knowing you hair is the first step to healthy hair. I finally feel i'm winning the battle.

Stinky Garlic Conditioner Update

Today is wash day. So what conditioner did i use today? The stinky garlic conditioner. Okay i know i'm gonna go around smelling like an Italian meal, but i don't care. This garlic conditioner is the bizness. It works so well that the smell(really stinky)is kool with me, now everybody else probably want to know wth smells like that, lol. As you may know by now, i have fine hair and it sheds like crazy, and i used just about everything to stop or cut down on the shedding, nothing worked. I tried aphogee, biolustre, hair fixer,etc.,etc., still shed, so a member of MyHairSistas (shameless plug, lol)suggested i try a garlic conditioner, at first i was like, no. It stinks, but she said it really works and the smell goes away. I did not want to buy another conditioner. I had already bought 15 cheapie conditioners (they were on sale for 79cents at rite aid), and 3 other conditioners, so one more was out, at least until next week, lol. Anyhoo i looked in my kitchen, cause i know i had some garlic throw up in there somewhere. I looked in the fridge and saw garlic bulbs, too much work to grind them up, nope. I looked in my cabinet, voila, garlic powder, ummm that might work. So i put 4 teaspoon of garlic together with vo5 strawberries and cream. This is my 3rd stinky garlic conditioner, it worked everytime. Just like the last two times, i put on the conditioner like i was applying a relaxer, put on my shower cap and wrapped a towel around my head for an hour this time. I rinsed, moisturized and sealed in 4 sections and air dried in a twist.
The Result?
butter soft, moisturized no shed hair, yaaaaaaaaa

Today Was Henna Day

Yes girls today i did another henna always on a quest for strength, length, and thickness. I want to start using only Jamila henna, but i had some left over henna that i bought from the health food store, it was a neutral henna (no color release) the lady at the store said it was 100% natural henna. I won't ever buy this henna again, it really is too grainy, so it's hard to remove from hair. Anyway i used this left over henna along with my new favorite henna, the Jamila brand. I had some left over vo5 and some other conditioners that i had mixed up together, so i don't even know exactly what the henna mixture consist of, i just threw every almost done conditioner i had in there. I applied my henna mixture, like i was applying a relaxer. Once my hair was all covered with henna, i put on a plastic cap and wrapped a towel around my head and let sit for 1 1/2 hour. I rinsed for what seemed like forever (15 minutes) and i was sure i had gotten all of the henna out, i didn't. After rinsing (my hair felt very strong)i parted my hair in 4 sections and applied my homemade moisture leave-in and then sealed with almond oil, in sections, especially the ends. I air-dried in sections and after my hair was dry, i combed my hair back and clipped it up with a hairpin and put on my wig and hat. Later today when i got home i took down my hair. It was feeling very thick, but i did not get all the henna out. So i combed through my hair and little specks of henna fell in the sink. That does not bother me, but my hair was very dry, so tommorrow i will moisturize again, my fine hair cannot take over moisturizing. All and all, it was a very good treatment. My hair feels stronger and thicker. Just what i wanted

Update On Garlic Conditioner

Okay ladies,
I have some great news to report about the garlic conditioner, it really works !!!!
I didn't want to jump too fast and say how great this garlic treatment is in stopping shedding until i tried it a couple of times. It stopped my shedding first time i used it and it continues to work. I have used this treament a total of 3 times since the last post. This treatment will be one of my staples. Not only did this treatment stop the shedding, but it also stopped some of the breakage too. I have been putting off trying this because it thought the smell would be to much. Well it does not smell good (lol), but it is worth it. I am 6 weeks post and this is when i usually run into trouble with more shedding and breakage, so i said, hey it's about time i see if this garlic thing works. Yes it does.

Here is what I used (very simple)
1/2 bottle of vo5 strawberries and cream
4 tablespoons of garlic powder
let sit on my hair for 15 minutes
rinsed out with more vo5 strawberries and cream (my hair felt like butter)
detangled in 4 sections (no shedding or breaking)
added moisturizer in 4 sections
sealed with almond oil in 4 sections

Garlic As A Hair Loss Remedy

Garlic can also be good for our scalp and hair, as well as for our body.

Garlic stimulates the flow of blood to the scalp and help remove any harmful toxins, which is an important consideration in caring for the growth of our hair and in helping to prevent hair loss.

Adding a garlic extract to shampoo can help to strengthen hair and stop any breakage, while at the same time, adding good body to the hair and a nice gloss.

If you have dry hair or maybe an itchy scalp, a garlic extract type of shampoo will give you relief from many of those nasty symptoms.

An hour before bedtime, slice open a clove of garlic and rub it on the hair loss area. Wait for an hour then massage the scalp with olive oil. Put on a cap and go to bed. In the morning, shampoo your hair. Repeat this remedy for a few weeks, and hopefully hair will stop falling out and re-grow.

I did not write this article: thought it was good information for those who shed

My new favorite oil

I discovered this heart healthy oil is also great as a sealer oil for hair. I ran out of the oils i usually use and this was in my fridge. Imagine that, lol. This oil moisturizes and is very light. It contains Omega-3 fatty acids that protect your heart and turns out it also protects the hair. I applied this oil to my hair after my henna gloss to moisturize and seal. This oil is so light, it disappears into the hair and leaves it shiny and soft without being weighed down. There is not greasy feel either. I'll be using this along with my other oils when i want something light.

I finally did my relaxer touch up !!!

Hey Sistas,
Today i finally did my relaxer touch up after 15 weeks post. It's not that i wanted to stretch that long (i usually stretch 3 months) but the condition of my hair was not right for relaxing and for some reason i was itching and scratching like crazy. As you may know i wanted to switch relaxers, i was using silk elements mild. I finally decided to switch to ORS lye relaxer. I heard so many good things about this relaxer and from fine haired sistas, so i figured this is the relaxer to switch to, the silk elements had started to underprocess my hair that's why i wanted to switch. Well after not being able to comb my hair or wait one more day, i just went for it today. Okay, i know that most people who used ORS relaxer had great results on fine hair, well let me tell you, from the minute i put the relaxer on my head it started burning, i was like what? so of course i had to rush and get it off. Needless to say i am texlaxed again and underprocessed in some areas. So maybe i'll do a corrective if it is too bad after my wash, but i would like to go at least 2 months without having to do the corrective. Even though i am underprocessed in some areas and texlaxed again, the relaxer actually left my hair soft and in good condition. I think maybe my scalp was just so irritated that's why i was burning. I will use this relaxer again, even though i didn't get my hair as straight as i liked, it feels soft and no breakage and doesn't feel as thin like other relaxers leave my hair, so i give it 4 stars !!!!
